Smart Thermostats

Smart thermostats fall in two different categories: The type that learn automatically from your behavior and adjust themselves accordingly, and the type that offer internet connectivity for remote management and programming. Thermostats that learn your behavior automatically are not the best choice for people that do not have a consistent schedule. These thermostats have a difficulty “learning” your schedule because it is not consistent causing problems which affect your level of comfort. Thermostats that offer internet connectivity have a wide variety of features. The basic feature of these thermostats allow you to control all your home’s environmental setting from afar via computer, smart phone or tablet. The idea behind these thermostats is to allow you to set the desired temperature before you return home.

Location

Your thermostat should be located away from the room’s cooling or heating vents or device, yet exposed to general airflow from the room(s) to be regulated. An open hallway may be most appropriate for a single zone system, where living rooms and bedrooms are operated as a single zone. If the hallway may be closed by doors from the regulated spaces then these should be left open when the system is in use.
