How Are Ductless AC Units Installed?
Ductless air conditioning systems are the quiet and preferred solution for all cooling and heating needs worldwide. Mini-splits have three main components:
- Indoor air handling unit
- Outdoor condensing unit
- Remote control
Installation is as simple as mounting the indoor and outdoor units, connecting the refrigerant lines, and making a few electrical connections. The units are easily connected by refrigerant lines running through a minimal opening in either the wall or ceiling. The outdoor unit cycles the refrigerant through the lines to and from the indoor unit, where the air is conditioned and distributed throughout the space.
Who Can Benefit from Ductless Mini-Split Installation?
Your home can be more comfortable than ever with a new mini split. The sleek wall-mounted indoor unit mounts discreetly on the wall and eliminates the need for ductwork or window units. The outdoor unit is slim and requires minimal ground space or service clearance. Here are some situations where ductless AC units are particularly appropriate:
- Home additions. In some cases, additions do not have ductwork. One example would be a four seasons room added to an existing home. These rooms do not have duct work so there is no way for the central air conditioning system to provide cooling to the new additional space.
- Previously unfinished space without ductwork. Imagine turning the attic area above your garage into a bonus room or finishing off your garage with insulation and drywall. Since there would be no ductwork going to these previously unfinished spaces, mini-split air conditioners offer the perfect solution.
- Finished basements. Rather than adding a second traditional air conditioning system to your home to accommodate all of your newly finished space, mini-split air conditioners are an excellent alternative.
Some customers even invest in ductless mini-splits for brand-new homes and apartments because they are small, quiet, and extremely efficient. One outdoor condensing unit can have the capacity to provide cooling for your space through several different heads which may be placed strategically around your home, each of which can be controlled by a remote control.
- Homes with boiler heating and no AC. Such homes are perfect applications for ductless AC because the last thing a homeowner wants to do is rip apart floors and ceilings to install ductwork and return registers. That's the beauty of mini-split air conditioners!
